Sea Eagles draw 16-all with Knights

Manly Warringah Sea Eagles recorded a 16-all draw with Newcastle Knights at Lottoland today in the opening round of the SG Ball Cup competition.

The Sea Eagles opened the scoring in the seventh minute when winger Sunia Siasau finished off a backline play to score in the left corner for a 4-0 lead.

With heavy rain falling, the remainder of the first half was a real struggle until the Knights took a 6-4 lead into half-time when prop Sam McIntyre charged over next to the posts in the final minute. Centre Logan Radzievic converted the try.

The Sea Eagles regained the lead when forward Valeli Tonga crashed over near the posts for an 8-6 scoreline. Half-back Jamie Humphreys converted the try.

Newcastle second-rower Oryn Keeley scored next to the posts after a mistake in-goal by Manly.  Radzievic converted from in front for a 12-10 lead with 19 minutes remaining.

Keeley grabbed his second try when he ran off a short ball to score out wide two minutes later for a 16-10 lead. The try was not converted.

Some sheer strength by Daniel O’Donnell saw him get the ball down from dummy half on the last tackle to score next to the posts for a 16-14 scoreline. Humphries converted the try for a 16-all scoreline.

Manly then had a try disallowed next to the posts after the referee ruled a knock-on with six minutes remaining.
