Dean Matterson signs new two-year deal with Sea Eagles

Manly Warringah Sea Eagles have re-signed Dean Matterson to a new two-year deal.

Matterson was a shining light this season at Manly and for the Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles in the NSW Cup, with his hard work leading to an NRL debut in round 20 against the Nth Qld Cowboys at 4 Pines Park.

The 25-year-old claimed Manly’s Ken Arthurson Rising Star award for Rookie of the Year, and also the Bob Batty Best and Fairest award for Blacktown’s best player in the NSW Cup.

Matterson's versatility to cover centre, five-eighth, lock and second-row made him an invaluable asset to the NRL and NSW Cup teams.

Sea Eagles Coach Anthony Seibold said Matterson deserved his new contract that will see him at Manly until the end of 2025.

“Dean’s consistency in the NSW Cup was well rewarded with an NRL debut,’’ Seibold said.

“He showed in the seven NRL games he played that he can compete for a position in our 17 each week in 2024.

“Dean has a great attitude and he cares deeply about his rugby league. He is a mature player. It hasn’t come easy for him, so it’s great to see him get an opportunity.”
