Match Report: Ron Massey Cup Round 7 vs Bulls

Three late tries in 11 minutes ended a gallant comeback for the Manly Leagues team in the Ron Massey Cup on Saturday night.

After trailing 20-8, the Sea Eagles got back within two points before Hills Bulls ran in three straight tries to record a 36-18 win at 4 Pines Park.

Manly Leagues got off to a bad start with the Bulls crossing in the third minute to five-eighth Kakapuna Fotu for a 4-0 lead.

The Bulls jumped to an 8-0 lead after Fotu crossed out wide after a spilt bomb by the Sea Eagles in the 19th minute.

A great offload in traffic saw Sea Eagles half Tyler Melrose break clear for five-eighth Cameron Robertson race away to score for an 8-4 scoreline after 24 minutes.

The Bulls extended their lead six minutes later through a try to forward Nathan Vaeluaga next to the posts for a 14-4 lead.

A bad bounce from a grubber kick saw Manly Leagues prop Nicholas Bilsborough spill the ball for lock Noah Parker to score two minutes after half-time for a 20-4 lead.

The Sea Eagles hit back in the 48th minute when forward Lachlan Armstrong crashed over from a short pass for a 20-8 scoreline.

The home side made it back-to-back tries when full-back Braith Alexander dived over in the corner off a slick backline play to make it 20-12 after 55 minutes.

A minute later, Alexander crossed for his second after stepping back inside the defence to cross next to the posts to leave the Sea Eagles trailing 20-18.

Just when the Sea Eagles got themselves back into the game, Hills prop Lennox Risati carried four defenders with him to make it 24-18 after 63 minutes.

Unfortunately, the Bulls then extended their lead when Fotu crossed for his third try two minutes later from a grubber kick for a 30- 18 scoreline.

The Bulls then wrapped up victory with a try to winger Sione Manakofua to make it 36-18 after 75 minutes.

The loss leaves the Sea Eagles winless after seven rounds.
