Rd 6 NRL Preview: Sea Eagles vs Warriors

A mouth-watering clash against the Warriors awaits the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles in Auckland on Saturday, April 13.

What a match up it will be at Go Media Stadium with the Sea Eagles coming off the back of a superb 32-18 victory over premiers Penrith while the Warriors crushed South Sydney to make it three straight wins.

Team News

Manly Coach Anthony Seibold has moved second-rower Ben Trbojevic to centre to cover the loss of Reuben Garrick (concussion). Corey Waddell comes off the bench to start in the second-row.

Strong history in NZ

The Sea Eagles have a terrific record over the Warriors, winning 27 of the 40 matches played since 1995.

Manly have also won 11 of the 16 games played at the Warriors home ground in Auckland.

Furthermore, Manly have won 13 of the Warriors' 19 home games played across New Zealand and in Australia (during covid).

Manly's last win over the Warriors in Auckland came in 2017 when Daly Cherry-Evans landed a memorable left foot field goal in Golden Point for a 22-21 victory.

The Sea Eagles lost 29-22 to the Warriors last year in their first game in Auckland since 2019.

Why the Warriors should fear DCE

If there is one man Warriors fans get nervous about, it's Manly half-back Daly Cherry-Evans.

'DCE' has broken their hearts so many times since his first game against them in his 2011 debut season. Take a look at some of these memorable moments from our most capped Manly player and captain.

2011: Scores a try in Manly's 24-10 Grand Final win over the Warriors

2012: Scores a try in Manly's 26-20 win in Auckland

2013: Kicks a field goal to secure a 27-12 victory in Gosford

2014: Scores a try in a 22-12 win in Auckland

2016: Kicks a left foot field goal to give Manly a 15-14 win in golden point extra-time in Perth.

2017: The incredible double act...lands right foot field goal to send game to Golden Point before kicking a left foot field goal to snatch a 22-21 victory.

2019: Scores two tries in a 46-12 win in a home game in Christchurch.

2021: Kicks a 79th minute field goal for a 13-12 victory at Gosford to give Manly their first win of the season

'Chez' has been quiet on the points front the last two years against the Warriors, but that could well change on Saturday, given he scored a try and kicked 6/6 goals in last week's win over premiers Penrith in his 310th record breaking game for Manly.

Turbo time!

Tom Trbojevic is another Sea Eagle who loves playing the Warriors!

The brilliant full-back has scored nine tries in eight games against the Warriors, including crossing for three doubles in Perth (2017), Christchurch (2019) and Brookvale (2021).

Trbojevic is well placed too on the Dally M leaderboard after five rounds, sitting in equal second position to be just five points behind Newcastle's Kalyn Ponga.
