Rd 5 NRL Preview: Sea Eagles vs Panthers

A sold out 4 Pines Park will witness history in the making on Saturday when Daly Cherry-Evans becomes the most capped Manly Warringah Sea Eagles player.

We take a look at some of the key points for the Sea Eagles leading into the round five Telstra Premiership match against premiers Penrith.

Daly #310

Cherry-Evans adds another special milestone to his illustrious career when he becomes the new record holder for most games played for Manly, breaking the record of 309 games he currently holds with Sea Eagles legend Cliff Lyons.

Already the most capped Manly captain, Cherry-Evans described the milestone as a very 'surreal feeling' this week for him and his family.

There's no doubt Cherry-Evans already ranks as one of the Sea Eagles greatest players as the club plans a special day for the inspirational skipper.

Manly fans, stand up and give a huge round of applause for 'DCE' when he leads the Sea Eagles out in front of a pyro technique display.

For this true Manly man fully deserves it.

A century for Corey

Hard working Manly second-rower Corey Waddell will play his 100th NRL game on Saturday.

A Penrith junior, Waddell made his NRL debut at Manly in 2019 and played 40 games for the Sea Eagles before spending the last three years at the Bulldogs.

"To think I get to run out on the weekend for the same club that I debut at in my 100th game is pretty special,'' Waddell said this week.

It will be a proud moment for the Waddell family, and a special one for Corey, who lost his dad, former Penrith and Dragons forward Steve Waddell, from a heart attack when Corey was 15.

Fortress time

It's time to get the old 'Fortress Brookvale' rocking again, just like the tremendous atmosphere the team experienced in their round two win over the Roosters at a sold out home ground.

The Sea Eagles have won four of their past six games at 4 Pines Park, so let's help lift the boys to victory as they look to get their season back on track following two straight losses.

It will be the ultimate challenge against the premiers of the past three years with Penrith sitting second on the ladder.
