Manly Warringah Sea Eagles winger Akuila Uate has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Scans today revealed the Fijian winger suffered a syndesmosis injury playing in the Pacific Test match against Papua New Guinea at Campbelltown on Saturday.

Off contract with Manly at the end of this season, 30-year-old Uate recently signed a three-year deal to play in the Super League in England from 2019.

Uate joined Manly in 2017 from Newcastle and quickly became a fan favourite after crossing for 14 tries in 24 matches. This year, he crossed for five tries in 15 games.

One of the most exciting wingers in the NRL, Uate scored 129 tries in a first grade career that began at Newcastle in 2008.
