Match Report: NSW Cup Round 12 vs Raiders

Manly Warringah Sea Eagles conceded 35 unanswered points in a heavy loss to the Canberra Raiders at Seiffert Oval, Queanbeyan, on Saturday afternoon.

The Sea Eagles led 16-0 in as many minutes before the Raiders went on a scoring spree to record a 35-16 victory in round 12 of the NSW Cup. The scored were locked at 16-all at half-time.

It was Manly’s ninth straight loss in between two byes. The Sea Eagles’ lone win came over Canberra in round one.

Manly opened the scoring in the seventh minute when winger Navren Willett leapt high to take a crossfield kick from five-eighth Onitoni Large for centre Semisi Kioa to score for a 4-0 lead.

A lovely short ball from full-back Tex Hoy saw second-rower Aaron Schoupp cross for a 10-0 lead.

Kioa crossed for his second try in the 16th minute when he found open space to crash his way over for a 16-0 lead.

Canberra hit back five minutes later when second-rower Regan Carr swooped on a loose ball from a bomb for a 16-4 scoreline.

The Raiders scored their second after centre Mark Tuialii crossed from a short drop out from Manly for a 16-10 scoreline after 30 minutes.

Lightning struck twice when Canberra centre Kain Anderson scored from another short drop out to level the scores at 16-all after 38 minutes.

Canberra jumped to a 22-16 lead when half-back Coby Black pushed off Schoupp to score out wide in the 44th minute.

Manly went close to scoring 14 minutes later through Willett but the winger was taken into touch short of the line.

The Raiders stretched their lead to 28-16 when Jordan Uta dived on a spilt bomb to score in the 65th minute.

Black then kicked a field goal to make it 29-16 with eight minutes remaining before he scored off his own grubber kick for the 35-16 scoreline.

The Sea Eagles now play the Newtown Jets at Henson on Saturday, May 30, at 3pm.
