Match Report: NSW Cup Round 11 vs Souths

Manly Warringah Sea Eagles suffered a 26-18 loss to South Sydney Rabbitohs at North Sydney Oval on Sunday in round 11 of the NSW Cup.

After having the better of the opening 20 minutes, it was the Sea Eagles who conceded the first try to winger Jordi Mazzone from a cut out pass to trail 6-0 at half-time.

The Sea Eagles hit back nine minutes after the break with a try to winger Samuel Loizou off a Joey Walsh kick to level at 6-all.

Second-rower Thomas Fletcher crossed first after breaking a tackle on the edge for a 12-6 lead to Souths after 52 minutes.

A penalty goal six minutes later saw Souths take a 14-6 lead.

South Sydney then ran in two converted tries in six minutes to take a 26-6 lead.

The first came when a loose pass saw the ball fall into the arms of winger Jay Kirk to race 80 metres to score against the run of play.

The Rabbitohs then crossed again after prop John Radel ran onto a short pass to crash over next to the posts for a 20 point lead after 71 minutes.

The Sea Eagles hit back quickly when Walsh produced a classic show and go to score for a 26-12 scoreline.

Three minutes later, Walsh took the line on again to find open space for second-rower Hugo Hart to score out wide to make it 26-18 after 78 minutes.

Manly have now lost eight matches in a row for just one win this season.

The Sea Eagles now play Canberra Raiders at Seiffert Oval, Queanbeyan, on Saturday, May 23, at 3pm.
