Help give kids' cancer the boot

Manly Warringah Sea Eagles are doing all they can to support the NRL’s Kick For A Cause campaign, an initiative inspired by little legend Beau Hewitt.

Beau, a 12-year-old Manly fan who was obsessed with footy, passed away last year leaving a legacy of courage, kindness and hope.

Throughout his treatment for cancer, Beau began to drive a movement to help as many kids with cancer as possible. He had quietly created a “cure for cancer” page on one of his social channels, calling for donations – something his family only discovered after he had passed away.

The inaugural Kick for a Cause honours Beau’s fight – helping fund the research and care every child deserves.

This Magic Round rugby league will come together in support of critically ill children. The aim is to give kids’ cancer the boot.

Another 12-year-old Manly fan who is fighting bravely against cancer, is Cam Finn.

Cam’s name has been carried on Manly’s official kicking tee for the past couple of games, as it will in Magic Round when the Sea Eagles play the Wests Tigers.

Cam was diagnosed about nine months ago with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) - a rare and highly aggressive brain tumour primarily affecting children.

With no cure and no effective treatment available, Cam’s family are doing all they can to squeeze in as many precious memories and simple comforts as they can.

When made aware of Cam’s illness just over a week ago, Kieran Foran, Jamal Fogarty, and head of wellbeing and education, John Bonasera, jumped in the car and paid him a visit at John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle.

On Saturday night Cam made the trip to 4 Pines Park, watching his team defeat the Broncos from coach Foran’s office, perched high in the Penn Centre of Excellence.

Manly players spent time with Cam and his family after the match, both on the ground and in the players’ tunnel.

Cam’s mother Laura, who is also a big Manly fan, says it meant a lot to the family.

“The club has surrounded our whole family with love and support. Cam and his brothers have not stopped smiling," Laura said.

We cannot put into words how much this means.

The Sea Eagles will be ‘kicking for Cam’ at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday, with funds raised across Magic Round to be distributed to paediatric cancer centres across Australia and New Zealand.

Also at Magic Round supporting Kick For A Cause, and the Sea Eagles, will be Beau Hewitt’s parents Scott and Belinda.

How Kick for a Cause works

During Magic Round 2026, every successful kick at goal will help fund critical care and research for children battling cancer.

For every successful conversion and penalty goal, national insurer Youi will donate $1,000 to Kick for a Cause and double the donation for any successful field goals.

Each kick makes a difference, with donations supporting clinical care, groundbreaking research, and vital support for kids with cancer and their families.

Every kick, every cheer, every dollar brings us closer to lifesaving research, world-class care, and moments of joy for kids and families who need it most.

The stats

Every year, around 1,000 children and teens are diagnosed with cancer in Australia and New Zealand — that's more than three kids every single day.

Tragically, three young lives are lost each week. Over a school term, that's an entire footy team gone.

Survival rates have improved to 80% — but one in five children diagnosed with cancer will still lose their fight. That's why every kick, every cheer, and every donation counts.
