In our 80th Anniversary season, we take a trip down memory lane ahead of Saturday night’s match to look at some of the history between the Sea Eagles and the Brisbane Broncos.
Head-to-Head
Saturday night’s match at 4 Pines Park will be the 52nd clash since the Broncos entered the competition in 1988.
The Broncos hold a 26-25 win record. Of the 16 matches played at 4 Pines Park, the Sea Eagles have won 11.
Biggest winning margin
Oh, what a night this was for the Sea Eagles at Suncorp Stadium, or should we say ‘Brookvale North’ as Manly fans in Queensland call it.
Manly ran riot in a 44-point thumping with Tom Trbojevic and Jason Saab scoring two tries each in the 50-6 win in 2021.
Match Highlights: Sea Eagles v Broncos
Reuben Garrick kicked nine from nine to hold the current record for most goals in a game between the clubs.
The 50 points is also the current record for the most points scored in a match between the clubs.
Most tries scored in a match
Here is an interesting stat. Five times Manly and Brisbane have scored eight tries between them in a game.
The last time eight tries were scored was in 2021 in Manly’s 50-6 win. Could it be another try-a-thon at 4 Pines this weekend?
Most individual points scored in a match
This record has certainly stood the test of time.
Remember the great Terry Matterson? We need to go back to Brisbane’s historic first ever premiership match in 1988 for this one.
Matterson registered 24 points through two tries and eight goals in Brisbane’s 44-10 win at Lang Park.
Most individual tries scored in a match
Former Brisbane winger Corey Oates is the only player to have scored four tries, set in 2018.
Amazingly, five players have scored three tries each in Cliff Lyons (1989), Shaun Berrigan (2005), Anthony Watmough (2007), Jamie Lyon (2009) and Selwyn Cobbo (2022, 2023).
From Manly’s current team, Jake Trbojevic, Tom Trbojevic, Jason Saab, Haumole Olakauátu and Clayton Faulalo have scored two tries each against the Broncos.
‘Turbo’ achieved this feat twice in 2015 and 2021.
Biggest ever win
Manly’s biggest ever win over the Broncos came in last year’s 34-6 win.
A sold-out crowd of over 17,000 welcomed the Broncos back to Brookvale for the first time in nine years.
On this magical Saturday night, Haumole Olakauátu and Clayton Faulalo scored two tries each with Nathan Brown and Tolu Koula also crossing.
