Match Preview: NRL Round 10 vs Broncos

Manly Warringah Sea Eagles take on the reigning premiers Brisbane Broncos in a Saturday night blockbuster at a sold-out 4 Pines Park.

The Sea Eagles head into the match after a hard-fought 18-16 loss to the Panthers last round, a result which ended a run of four straight victories.

The Broncos match against the Roosters last Saturday night was certainly ‘a game of two halves’. Brisbane trailed the Roosters 30-0 early in the second half before scoring 24 unanswered points to make a game of it.

Prior to that the Broncos had a comfortable win over the Bulldogs which followed a one-point victory against the Wests Tigers.

This will be just the second time in 12 years that the Broncos have played at 4 Pines Park, their most recent visit to the Northern Beaches was just last year when heavily beaten 34-6.

Clayton Faulalo scored the first two of Manly’s six tries, and Haumole Olakau’atu also bagged a double.

Results over the years since Brisbane were admitted to the competition in 1988 have been very evenly split. A win for Manly on Saturday would make the ledger dead even at 26 wins apiece and the one draw.

There’s nothing even about the results when played at 4 Pines Park, with Manly winning 11 of the 17 matches played at The Fortress.

In team news a couple of changes for Manly with Jamal Fogarty returning from a groin strain to replace Joey Walsh in the halves and Ethan Bullemor replacing Kobe Hetherington (HIA protocol) at prop.  Jackson Shereb has been added to the bench and is in line to make his NRL debut.

For the Broncos Tom Duffy replaces Adam Reynolds (HIA protocol) at halfback , Jesse Arthars replaces suspended centre Kotoni Staggs and Antonio Verhoeven steps in for injured winger Deine Mariner (leg).
