One last challenge for Blacktown in finals race

Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles face their most important game of the season on Sunday in the race for the NSW Cup finals.

With the top five teams contesting the finals, five to six sides remain in the hunt for the last three positions heading into the final weekend of the regular season.

The fifth-placed Sea Eagles (30 points) tackle the eighth-placed Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs (29 points) at Accor Stadium, Homebush.

Minor premiers North Sydney Bears and second placed South Sydney are the only teams guaranteed a berth in the finals.

The Warriors (third) and the Canberra Raiders (fourth) sit on 31 points. Penrith sit sixth on 30 points with Newtown seventh on 29 points.

Blacktown Workers go into the Bulldogs game on the back of an impressive 32-12 win over the third-placed Warriors in Auckland last Friday night.

The Sea Eagles dominated proceedings early to take a commanding 18-0 lead into half-time in a six tries to two victory.

Centre Clayton Faulalo grabbed a hat-trick to take his tally to 27 tries. He will finish the NSW Cup season as the leading try scorer, being seven clear of North Sydney centre Fetalaiga Pauga.

Blacktown Workers Coach Greg Boulous has done a superb job in his first season at the helm, with the Sea Eagles winning four of their past give games to storm into finals calculations.

"The ladder is very tight. We can only control our result and our performance,'' Boulous said.

"We managed to get out to a good lead against the Warriors and then we were able to just maintain possession and the flow of the game.

"We have found what works for us. We need to continue that this Sunday in what will be a tough game against the Bulldogs."

Blacktown Workers will be without captain and hooker Gordon Chan Kum Tong for the game after being selected to make his NRL debut against the Bulldogs. The final Blacktown team will be declared an hour before kick-off with the NRL match following the NSW Cup match.

The NSW Cup kicks off at Accor Stadium, Homebush, at 11.35am.
