The development of several talented young Sea Eagles players into the NSW Cup continues at Campbelltown Sports Stadium on Sunday, April 23.
Exciting five-eighth Latu Fainu, one of the shining lights of the Sea Eagles Pathways program, will become the latest player to make the transition from Jersey Flegg to the NSW Cup when Blacktown Workers tackle the Western Suburbs Magpies in round eight.
A player with tremendous skills, vision, and pace, Fainu signed a four-year deal with Manly not long after his 16th birthday.
The 17-year-old is in Manly's full-time NRL top 30 squad this season.
Fainu played for Manly in their win over Canberra in the Jersey Flegg last Saturday after finishing the SG Ball season with the Sea Eagles.
“We have had a lot of boys transition up to NSW Cup this year and it’s been really pleasing,’’ said Blacktown Workers Coach Greg Boulous.
“Outside backs Cameron Brown and Fletcher Myers have done a great job for us, as has half Jamie Humphreys who has come back really well from a broken jaw.
“This week, we will see young Latu for the first time. He will have a combination there with Jamie coming through our junior system.
“Our hooker Gordon Chan Kum Tong knows these guys well and he will be a big part of that spine against Wests. Gordie has been great for us.
"We are looking forward to seeing how those three boys play together at this level.”
Blacktown Workers had a two-game wining streak come to an end at the hands of the second-placed Warriors last weekend, going down 40-30 at home.
Three tries in the first half, including a double to winger Clayton Faulalo, saw the Sea Eagles lead 18-12 at the break with the Warriors running in 28 second half points.
The Magpies go into the game on the back of a bye after going down 10-6 to Parramatta in their last match.
The NSW Cup match is the second game of a triple header at Campbelltown. Kick-off is 1.35pm. See the Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles team here
