Sea Eagles dig deep in support of Bear Cottage

There were plenty of cheers amongst some fallen locks at Sea Eagles headquarters in Brookvale today with more than $35,000 raised to date in support of Bear Cottage.

Several Sea Eagles players issued a fundraising challenge last Thursday to shave their heads in support of Bear Cottage, the only children’s hospice in NSW.

Located in Manly on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, Bear Cottage is a very special place that is dedicated to caring for children with life-limiting conditions and their families.

The Melbourne Storm raised nearly $30,000 through their recent head shave appeal, with the Sea Eagles aiming to beat that target.

What started out as an initial target goal of $15,000 was quicky reached as Sea Eagles supporters, players, staff, and corporate partners donated generously.

The Sea Eagles also donated $10,000 from their $100,000 Pre-Season Challenge prize-money while the Club’s Premier Partner, Shaw and Partners, kindly donated  $5000 to the charity.

With the clippers going and plenty of encouragement from their team-mates, several more Sea Eagles players and staff decided to have their heads shaved, including Reuben Garrick, Sean Keppie, Fletcher Myers and Gordon Chan Kum Tong.

A big cheer was also given when rugby league reporters Danny Weidler (Nine News) and Andrew McKinlay (Seven News), - there to cover the event - decided to also join in on the act, much to the joy of the players.

The Sea Eagles wish to thank hairdressers Hayley and her team at Liberated Hair in Mona Vale and barber Matthew Mastroianni from Dee Why for volunteering their services for the head shaving.

A big thank you also from the Sea Eagles to all Manly supporters who have donated to the fundraiser.

Donations will still be accepted up to 3pm Friday.
