Rd 1, 1951

Jack Herbert was sent off in Manly’s 18-13 win over St George Dragons at Kogarah Oval.

The opening round match saw flying winger Johnny Bliss and Jack Hubbard score tries for the Sea Eagles. Ron Rowles kicked six goals.

Bliss played in Manly’s first premiership match against Western Suburbs Magpies on April 12, 1947.

Outside of rugby league, Bliss was a professional beach sprint champion, winning 12 Australian sprint titles.

Rd 2, 1968

Bob Fulton scored a try and kicked a field goal in the 25-12 win over the Canterbury-Bankstown Berries at Brookvale.

Les Hanigan and Dennis Ward also crossed for Manly. Goal-kicker Bill Bradstreet had a fine day with the boot, landing six goals.

The Sea Eagles went on to win their first six games under Coach George Hunter. Manly was beaten 13-9 by Souths in the NSWRL Grand Final that season.

Rd 2, 1974

Three players scored seven of Manly’s 10 tries between them in the 44-8 crushing of the Parramatta Eels.

More than 10,000 excited Sea Eagles fans at Brookvale witnessed Kevin Junee cross for a hat-trick while Terry Hill and Ian Martin grabbed a double each.

Graham Eadie, Ray Branighan, and Rod Jackson also scored. Eadie kicked seven goals for a personal tally of 14 points.

Rd 3, 1979

Winger Tom Mooney (below) scored a double in the 15-4 win over South Sydney at Brookvale.

A try to Mooney in the opening half gave Manly a 3-2 lead at half-time. Mooney then crossed for his second with Graham Eadie kicking four goals and a field goal to get the Sea Eagles home.

Rd 5, 1995

Captain Matthew Ridge led the way in Manly’s 26-14 win over the Auckland Warriors at Mt Smart Stadium.

A crowd of more than 30,000 fans on a Friday night witnessed Ridge score a try and kick five from five for 14 points.

Steve Menzies, Craig Hancock, and Danny Moore also crossed for Manly.
