Manly beat Sharks 14-12 in Jersey Flegg trial

Manly Warringah Sea Eagles recorded a strong come from behind win to beat Cronulla Sharks 14-12 in the Jersey Flegg trial at Southern Cross Group Stadium today.

In a match played over 3 x 25 minute periods, the Sharks led 12-0 after the first 25 minutes before the Sea Eagles put on 14 unanswered points to win.

The Sharks opened the scoring with a converted try under the posts to half-back Braydon Trindall for a 6-0 lead.

The Sea Eagles challenged the Cronulla lime a few times with prop Michael Fenn (pictured below) making some strong charges but the defence held firm.

Trindall stretched the lead to 12-0 when he scored and converted his second try.

The Sea Eales opened their account with a try to centre Zane Weatherall out wide. Half-back Luke Metcalf’s attempt hit the upright for a 12-4 scoreline.

Fenn was almost rewarded for his fine game with a try but was held up over the line. Two tackles later, hooker Thomas Menzies scored next to the posts. Winger Bilaal Maarbani converted for a 12-10 scoreline with 10 minutes remaining.

Manly hit the lead when Jackson Whitby put on a crossfield kick for winger Jayden Burgess to score. It was a fine catch by Burgess who had a strong wind behind him.

Maarbani failed to convert the try for a 14-12 scoreline. The Sea Eagles held on well in the final minutes for a good trial win.
