Champion Manly full-back Brett Stewart remains confident he can return to his best form, starting hopefully against premiers Nth Qld Cowboys this Monday night.
Speaking to media in Townsville this morning, Stewart admitted he has struggled at times this season. The Sea Eagles left the Gold Coast yesterday following Monday night’s loss to the Titans to arrive in Townsville to prepare for the Cowboys match.
“It is pretty safe to say I have been in better form. In rugby league, you have got a game every week so I will be looking to pick up my form on Monday night,’’ Stewart said.
“For me, it is about the next game. I will be looking to train a little bit harder and doing the small things at training with a view to putting in a good performance.”
Stewart said the team needs to focus on its discipline more and to stop conceding points off their mistakes as they look to end a six game losing streak.
“The sooner we can work out how to defend an error, the better,’’ he said.
“I think that is where we are at the moment, defending an error and learning how to defend penalties.
“We seem to be leaking too many points after receiving a penalty against us or making an error. We didn’t do a good job there last week and hopefully we can learn from that.
“Belief in this team is not a problem. We just really need to focus and find a way to win on Monday. It is going to be a tough task.
“The Cowboys have got strike power all over the field. We really need to pick our game up.”
