In a special video as part Manly’s 70th Year Anniversary, Fred Brown spoke to Sea Eagles TV about the Club’s early years.
Described as a ‘rugged prop from Newcastle’, Brown played 106 first grade games for Manly from 1948-53.
He formed a strong front-row partnership with Australian Test players in prop Roy Bull and hooker Kevin Schubert, and played in Manly’s first Grand Final team in 1951 under the coaching of Wally O’Connell.
Now aged 90, Brown was a special guest of the Sea Eagles on Anzac Day for the match against Newcastle Knights.
Following the win, Brown joined the current NRL side in the dressing room with the players honoured to meet one of the early pioneers of the club.
