The Cowboys have handed the Sea Eagles their fifth loss of the season after claiming a 30-16 victory at Central Coast Stadium on Friday night.
A late lapse in concentration cost the home side dearly as the Cowboys scored 20 unanswered points in the final quarter of the match to secure victory.
The loss has the Sea Eagles sitting at the bottom end of the ladder just one win away from last position.
It took just five minutes for the Sea Eagles to get on the scoreboard as Leonati feiloakitua dived over to hand his side an early lead.
But it wouldn’t last for very long, as the Cowboys were quick to hit back through Skipper Jack Kelleher just 10 minutes into the match.
The home side took the lead once again courtesy of a piece of individual brilliance by fullback Tom Trbojevic, who stepped and ducked his way under the Cowboys defence to score near the left corner post.
However, North Queensland managed to take a 2-point lead into the half time break as Viliame Kikau crashed over on the stroke of the half.
The Sea Eagles created more chances in the opening 20 minutes of the second half and were rewarded as they stole the lead again through Rhys Armstrong, who bustled his way over the line.
But the game followed its trend as the Cowboys hit the lead once more through Alex Grant.
Samsen O'Neill then extended the Cowboys’ lead as he scored from the scrum feed, and when Corey Jensen kicked a late penalty goal to go ahead by 14 points, the game was all but lost for the Sea Eagles.
