Come full time of Saturday night’s match against the Brisbane Broncos, Manly Warringah Sea Eagles are hoping to have retained the Trooper David Pearce Memorial Shield.

The Memorial Shield is contested annually between the Sea Eagles and Broncos, in memory of fallen Australian soldier, David Pearce.

A devoted Manly fan, Trooper Pearce was posted to the Gallipoli Barracks in Brisbane and was killed by a roadside bomb while deployed in Afghanistan in 2007.

Following his passing, the Sea Eagles and the Broncos decided to play for the Trooper David Pearce Memorial Shield when they meet each season.

Manly reclaimed the shield last season after defeating Brisbane 34-6 in Round 13 at 4 Pines Park.

The Sea Eagles are honoured to play for this shield in David's memory and look forward to welcoming David’s brother Edward and nephew Greg to 4 Pines Park on Saturday.
