Manly Leagues had a tough initiation to the Ron Massey Cup with a 32-6 round one loss to heavyweights Wentworthville Magpies at Ringrose Park.
The Ron Massey Cup is the state’s second-tier competition that feeds into the NSW Cup.
Manly Leagues were promoted to the Ron Massey Cup in 2026 following their premiership success last year in the third tier Sydney Shield competition.
Wentworthville Magpies, the most successful club with seven titles since it was rebranded as the Ron Massey Cup in 2009, were always in control at home, racing to a commanding 26-0 lead at half-time through five first half tries.
The Sea Eagles’ lone try came three minutes after half-time when hard running forward Daniel Manu carried four defenders over the line to score next to the posts.
Manly Leagues will play their first home game in round two against Penrith Brothers on Saturday, April 4, at Sydney Academy of Sport and Recreation, Narrabeen. Kick-off 2.50pm.
