Match Preview: NRL Round 15 vs Titans

The Sea Eagles are on the Gold Coast preparing for Friday night’s Round 15 match against the Titans at Cbus Super Stadium.

Both teams head into this contest after bitterly disappointing performances last round. The Sea Eagles surrendered a 16-point lead to suffer a golden-point loss to the Knights in Newcastle, and a couple of days later the Titans were obliterated by the Broncos in Brisbane.

Goes without saying this a huge match for both teams with Manly in a mid-table logjam, and the Gold Coast at the foot of the ladder.

The Sea Eagles are one of eight teams separated by just two competition points, so a win on Friday, together with two points from next week’s bye, would give them a nice little nudge up the ladder.

Consistency for Manly has been somewhat elusive through the first half of the season, the team stringing together back-to-back wins just once, and on a seven-game win-loss-sequence.

Origin inevitably plays a part in performances and results at this time of the year, it’s just the way it is.

The Titans will be missing their captain Tino Fa'asuamaleaui and prop Moeaki Fotuaika, while Manly, for the first time in 10 years, will not be supplying talent to either New South Wales or Queensland.

In team news, the Sea Eagles welcome back a trio of players who have not played since their team’s loss to the Eels in Round 12. Tom Trbojevic replaces Lehi Hopoate (HIA) at fullback, Jason Saab comes onto the wing for Clayton Faulalo, and Siua Taukeiaho will be a welcome addition to the front row.

For the Titans, with Fa'asuamaleaui and Fotuaika in camp with the Maroons, Klese Haas starts at lock and Iszac Fa'asuamaleaui joins the bench alongside 26-year-old back-rower Josh Patston who will make his NRL debut.
