Keeping hold of the Malcolm Reilly Trophy

The Malcolm Reilly Challenge Trophy is again up for grabs when the Sea Eagles play the Knights at McDonald Jones Stadium in Round 14 of the 2025 Telstra NRL Premiership.

Manly and Newcastle play for the annual trophy when they meet for the first time each season in honour of Sea Eagles premiership-winning forward and ex-Knights grand final-winning coach, Malcolm Reilly.

Regarded as one of the greatest Englishman to have played in Australia, Reilly played 89 games for Manly from 1971-75 and played in their premiership winning teams in 1972 and 1973.

He later coached Newcastle to their maiden premiership, defeating Manly in the 1997 Grand Final.

Seibold: Privilege to play for Malcolm Reilly Trophy

Reilly was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year but is now out of hospital and doing well.

His son Glen, who will present the trophy to the winning team on Thursday night, says his father is in good spirits.

A message from Malcolm Reilly

"Dad is doing well given what he is going through," said Glen.

"He's at home and able to look after himself, walking, dressing, watching television, cooking and still driving.

"He still loves watching his footy and will always tune in when Manly or Newcastle are playing.

He is in very good spirits and I know he is extremely proud to have this trophy named in his honour.

Glen Reilly

The Malcolm Reilly Challenge Trophy was first played for in 2007, with Manly winning 11 of the 18 contests.
