Match Preview: NRL Round 8 vs Panthers

Manly Warringah Sea Eagles tackle the Penrith Panthers in ANZAC Round on Saturday night at CommBank Stadium, Parramatta.

The Sea Eagles will be desperate to snap a three-game losing streak when they meet the four-time defending premiers who ended a run of five straight defeats last weekend.

A welcome boost for Manly is the return of fullback Tom Trbojevic who has missed the past three games after picking up a knee injury against the Eels in Round 4.

Another feature of this match will be the contest between two of the game’s best half backs with Daly Cherry-Evans pulling the strings for Manly and Nathan Cleary doing the same for the Panthers.

While the same can be said for most sides over the past four or five years, the Sea Eagles’ recent record against the Panthers is not great. That said, all that really matters right now is the 80 minutes post 7:35pm on Saturday.

In other team news, the Sea Eagles have shuffled their pack in the absence of Jake Trbojevic (concussion protocol) with Jazz Tevaga to fill in at lock and Jake Simpkin elevated to the starting side at hooker.

Turbo’s return at fullback sees Lehi Hopoate, who chalked up a staggering 278 run metres against the Dragons, revert to the wing.

For the Panthers, Luke Sommerton takes over at hooker from Mitch Kenny (suspension) while Izack Tago is back in the centres in place of Luke Garner (concussion protocol).
