Sea Eagles release special 90s retro Pepsi Max jersey

One of the most famous jerseys in the history of the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles – the ‘Pepsi’ jersey – is coming back – as Pepsi Max!

Worn by the all-conquering premiership winning Sea Eagles team of 1996, the Pepsi jersey is often one of the first things league fans think of when they remember Manly in the 90s.

An iconic design that brings back great feelings of nostalgia, the jersey has come full circle now with current Manly Coach Des Hasler part of the 1996 team under Coach Bob Fulton.

Manly will wear the Pepsi Max jersey against St George-Illawarra in their round 19 premiership match at Jubilee Stadium, Kogarah, on Friday, July 22, to celebrate the Sea Eagles’ grand final win over the Dragons in 1996.

The special 90s retro jersey worn in Round 19 will also be released for retail sales, allowing Sea Eagles Members and fans to purchase what will be a tribute to the Sea Eagles 1996 Premiership winning jersey with a modern twist.

Dynasty Sport and the Sea Eagles wanted to maintain the historical accuracy when recreating this retro jersey.

90s is back

Everything from the collar, a rarity in today’s game, through to the front of jersey sponsor in Pepsi Max, being brought back for this on-off jersey, have meant it is has stayed as true as possible to the original.

Tyler Rakich, Founder/Director of Dynasty Sport, said there was a big demand now for ‘Retro’ jerseys.

We know fans love to remember the greatest parts in a club’s history, and there is no doubt the ‘96 jersey represents one of many great moments for the mighty Sea Eagles

Tyler Rakich Founder/Director of Dynasty Sport

“There were a lot of moving pieces, including some debate on whether to have a collar or not, but we’re all delighted with how it’s turned out.”

“Whether you’re a Manly fan or not, you’d know that Pepsi was synonymous with the Sea Eagles as Major Sponsor of the Club throughout the 90s including being front and centre of the 1996 Premiership winning jerseys,” said Sea Eagles interim Chief Executive Officer, Gary Wolman.

“We’ve already brought back the traditional hoops design for our home and away jerseys, but perhaps the most exciting part of reuniting with Pepsi is that we will be bringing back a special 90s retro jersey with Pepsi Max across the front for a game this season.”

Pepsi Max, who are the Official Soft Drink of the Sea Eagles, are excited to be partnering with the Sea Eagles in 2022 for the return of this iconic jersey. Ali Hamza, General Manager, PepsiCo ANZ Beverages said there’s been strong ties between Pepsi and the Sea Eagles over the years and we are excited to come back and partner with the club for the next five years.

We’re excited to see Pepsi Max front and centre on the jersey and be a part of such an iconic moment for the club. Great to be joining forces with our bottling partner, Asahi Lifestyle Beverages, and see this sponsorship come to life.
