A Daly Cherry-Evans field goal in Golden Point has given Manly Warringah Sea Eagles a 21-20 victory over Canberra Raiders at Lottoland today in round 13 of the Telstra Premiership.

The victory was the second time this season Manly has beaten Canberra in golden point following Dylan Walker’s match winning goal in round 8.

The Sea Eagles opened the scoring in the fifth minute when a great cut out pass by half-back and captain Daly Cherry-Evans put centre Dylan Walker over for a try. Full-back Matthew Wright converted from next to the posts for a 6-0 lead.

The Raiders got on the board in the 17th minute when five-eighth Blake Austin backed up to finish off a 60m break. Captain and centre Jarrod Croker converted try from out wide for a 6-all scoreline after 18 minutes.

A strong run by powerful second-rower Martin Taupau saw him leave Joe Tapine behind to score from 10 metres out. Wright converted for a 12-6 lead after 31 minutes.

A great pick up by centre Brian Kelly from a low pass saw him offload the ball quickly to send winger Jorge Taufua over for a try in the left corner in the 36th minute. Wright failed to convert try.

Two minutes later, a drop ball by Canberra saw Walker swoop to find open space before kicking ahead for the ball to sit up perfectly for Cherry-Evans to score out wide for a 20-6 lead after 38 minutes. The score remained that way to half-time.

Second Half

The Raiders started the second half off on the right note when winger Jordan Rapana dived over in the right corner for a soft try. Croker converted to leave Canberra trailing 20-12 after 48 minutes.

Rapana grabbed his second try when he took off from dummy half to race 70m to score. Croker converted to leave the Raiders trailing 20-18 after 72 minutes.

The Raiders drew level when Croker converted a penalty goal after the siren from 30m out to send the game into golden point.

Golden Point

The Sea Eagles got home when Cherry-Evans calmly landed the match winning field goal for the 21-20 victory.
