Brisbane Doubleheader 'Sold Out'
The NRL Brisbane Doubleheader is officially ‘sold out’ with 52,500 supporters ready to bring Suncorp Stadium alive this Saturday night.
The last remaining tickets to the NRL blockbuster, featuring the Melbourne Storm versus the North Queensland Cowboys followed by the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles taking on the Brisbane Broncos, were snapped up this morning.
Suncorp Stadium General Manager, Alan Graham, said selling out this event with more than three days to go was a phenomenal result.
“Full credit to everyone involved. A special thanks to the Melbourne Storm and Manly Sea Eagles for bringing their respective home games to Brisbane, to the Brisbane Broncos for their outstanding support, the North Queensland Cowboys, Tourism and Events Queensland and Brisbane Marketing for the roles they have played,'' Mr Graham said.
“But just as important are the fans who have supported the Doubleheader and again showed what a Rugby League powerhouse Suncorp Stadium is."
Mr Graham reminded fans that special public transport services will run from 3.30pm to 5.30pm and strongly urged them to spread their travel over that two hour window and not defer their arrival at the Stadium until later and therefore risk missing any of the action because of congestion.
Minister for Tourism and Major Events Kate Jones said the sell-out fixture this weekend would prove to be a blockbuster event for Brisbane.
“Queensland is the home of Rugby League and this is a fantastic reminder of the passion Queenslanders have for the game,” Ms Jones said.
“Suncorp Stadium is one of the best rugby league grounds in the world and the Queensland Government is proud to support major events such as this for the State.
“It’s great to see Queensland NRL fans supporting their team and making the most of this weekend’s Doubleheader.”
Manly Warringah Sea Eagles CEO Joe Kelly said the Club was very excited about heading north to Brisbane.
“The NRL Double Header will be one of the biggest events on this year’s rugby league calendar,’’ Mr Kelly said.
“The Sea Eagles are very excited to play our home game against the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium. I know our players and coaching staff are delighted about playing in front of a sold out Suncorp Stadium.
“Manly has a strong following of supporters in Brisbane and we have a good record against the Broncos at Suncorp.
“The Club has worked hard in promoting the Double Header and we have arranged community events for supporters to meet the players in Brisbane on Thursday and Friday in the build up to the game.
“This is going to be a night to remember for Rugby League in Brisbane and the Sea Eagles are thrilled to be involved."
Melbourne Storm CEO, Dave Donaghy added: “A sell-out is a wonderful result and a credit to the clubs, broadcasters, Stadium and most importantly the members and fans who have supported this marquee event.
“There’s a lot of anticipation and excitement from our players and members leading into our game against the Cowboys and Saturday night will certainly be a unique celebration of rugby league at Suncorp Stadium,” Mr Donaghy said.
