Sea Eagles half-back Daly Cherry-Evans has combined with Layne Beachley to help promote the former world champion’s Aim for the Stars Foundation.

Aim for the Stars supports girls and women in their field of pursuit to help them financially through a scholarship grant to pursue their dreams, to achieve and then put back into the community.

A seven time world surfing champion, Beachley will be at Brookvale Oval this Sunday for the match against Parramatta Eels with the Sea Eagles proud to support her foundation.

Beachley and a team of volunteers will be wearing purple ‘Áim for the Stars’ t-shirts when selling raffle tickets at Brookvale Oval. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20 and the raffle will be drawn on the day.

Here are the prizes:

First prize: Surfboard signed by Layne Beachley from her private collection.

Second prize: A training kit from Daly Cherry-Evans. The kit contains a signed pair of game worn boots and Manly, Qld and Australian team training gear.

Each year, the foundation receives more than 1000 applications. It grants approximately 25 scholarships a year across seven categories including academic, education, music and performing arts, science and technology, leadership and business, and sport.

“Having experienced the financial pressures of supporting my professional surfing career, I set out to establish a foundation offering assistance for those who need some extra help to achieve their ambitions,’’ Beachley said.

“It is a hard task to be the best at your chosen aspiration when you are busy trying to substitute your income or do your school work. There were plenty of moments when I wanted to quit but I cannot begin to imagine where I would be now if I let money dictate my love for surfing!

“A little bit of finance or just the knowledge someone believes in their personal ambition may be all it takes for a female to achieve greatness and ultimately happiness.”
