Three tries to winger Peta Hiku led Manly Warringah Sea Eagles to a 28-8 victory over South Sydney Rabbitohs at Brookvale Oval tonight.
In front of a crowd of 15,083, prop Jake Trbojevic scored two tries for the Sea Eagles who moved into equal eighth on the Telstra Premiership ladder subject to weekend results with four rounds remaining.
Captain and centre Jamie Lyon also set a personal milestone. His eight points through four goals saw him become the third player in the club’s history to score 500 points at Brookvale Oval.
Trailing 2-0 after a penalty goal to South Sydney half-back Adam Reynolds, Trbojevic showed his strength and skills to twist out of tackles to score the first try of the match. Centre Jamie Lyon converted for a 6-2 lead to the home side.
Hiku then crossed in the 16th and 36th minutes to give the Sea Eagles a 14-2 lead at half-time.
2nd Half
Lyon stretched the lead to 16-2 through a penalty goal before Brett Stewart found support in Lyon to send Hiku over for his third try of the match in the 61st minute for a 20-2 lead. Lyon converted for a 22-2 scoreline.
Trbojevic secured the win when he planted the ball down next to the posts in the 74th minute much to the delight of the Manly faithful. Lyon converted the try for the 28-2 lead to reach his personal milestone.
Souths scored a late consolation try to winger Alex Johnston which was converted by Reynolds for the 28-8 scoreline.
The Sea Eagles take on the Canberra Raiders at Canberra Stadium next Sunday.
