NRL Match Preview v Cowboys

Manly Warringah Sea Eagles return to Brookvale Oval on Monday night to face a highflying North Queensland Cowboys as they look to start a remarkable charge to the finals.

Fans could be forgiven if they had thrown the towel in on finals footy but after a 38-6 thumping over the Gold Coast Titans last Monday, the Sea Eagles find themselves only two wins outside of the top eight.

On the other side of the coin, the Cowboys are coming off the bye and have been in great form led by mercurial captain Johnathan Thurston which saw them win a club record 11 matches this season.

One of those matches was against the Sea Eagles where the Cowboys stole victory from the clutches of defeat. A brave Sea Eagles valiant effort went unstuck when Gavin Cooper went over in the 80th minute. The Silvertails will be making sure a repeat doesn’t happen on Monday night.

The two points are vital for both sides as the Cowboys push for a minor premiership and Manly looking to creep into the top eight with only seven rounds remaining.

Be there on Monday as two attacking heavyweights collide at ‘The Fortress’.

Key Match Ups

Daly Cherry-Evans v Johnathan Thurston

By far the biggest clash on the field will be the dual between playmakers Daly Cherry-Evans and Johnathan Thurston. The proud Queenslanders will certainly decide the course of the match.  Not often do we get to see two of the very best clash so expect a master class lesson in attacking from both sides.

Brett Stewart v Lachlan Coote

There are big match ups all over the park but one of the more intriguing encounters will be the tussle between Manly full-back Stewart and Cowboys’ number one Coote. Stewart’s efforts in recent weeks suggest have played a major role in Manly’s turnaround in form.

His opposite number has been equally as strong and is no surprise the Cowboys great run started once he made his way into the side, allowing Michael Morgan to move into the halves with Thurston to form a dangerous spine. It’s going to be an interesting battle between two ball playing fullbacks whose skills will be on show.
