Manly Warringah Sea Eagles Coach Geoff Toovey expects Daly Cherry-Evans to have another big game tonight at Cbus Super Stadium.
Cherry-Evans is the Gold Coast Titans’ supporters number one enemy after deciding to remain loyal to his beloved Manly Warringah Sea Eagles instead of taking up a an agreed contract for next year.
The Gold Coast media have made tonight’s game about the Titans versus ‘DCE’ in attempts to destabilise the half-back.
One newspaper today labelled DCE a ‘weasel’ on their back page. It won’t bother the half-back and as for the photo of him wearing the club polo, it is great free back page publicity for major sponsor Kaspersky.
To the credit of the Titans club, they have downplayed any ‘revenge talk’ publicly and just hope their supporters will at least turn up for a match that will be played in freezing conditions. A crowd of around 7000 is anticipated.
Toovey said apart from the odd boos, there will be plenty of cheers for Cherry-Evans given the Sea Eagles’ strong supporter base on the Gold Coast strip.
“It is exciting for him. There’s going to be a few jeers but he’ll be out to impress his team-mates. I don’t think it will matter to Daly,’’ Toovey said.
“He’s very careful about what he says and how he speaks. He’ll be up for the challenge.”
As will e the entire Sea Eagles team, who apart from keeping their finals charge alive, a win tonight would be the perfect way for captain Jamie Lyon to celebrate his 200 games for the club.
Kick-off is 7pm.
