Fullback Brett Stewart will be given every chance to prove his fitness for Friday night’s qualifying final against South Sydney.

Stewart rolled his ankle on the eve of Manly’s round 26 clash with the Cowboys at the team’s captain’s run in Townsville.

The club will give the fullback right until kick off to overcome the injury, which kept him out of Saturday’s 30-16 loss to North Queensland.

Front-rower Brenton Lawrence is set to return to the starting side after missing the final two matches of the regular season with a slight knee strain.

“I know I said this last week but he (Lawrence) will definitely be back next week. It was one of those things,” Toovey said following Saturday night’s match against North Queensland.

Hooker Matt Ballin’s recovery from a broken leg is coming along smoothly, with the hooker eyeing a return for later in the final series.

Back-rower Jamie Buhrer will undergo surgery on his right knee after being ruled out for the remainder of the season after rupturing his ACL in Manly’s come from behind victory over Penrith.
