Disappointing Sea Eagles lose 20-0 to Knights

Manly Warringah Sea Eagles suffered a disappointing 20-0 loss to the Newcastle Knights tonight in round five of the NSWRL Jersey Flegg Cup.

In a match played in heavy conditions at McDonald Jones Stadium, the Sea Eagles trailed 6-0 at half-time but some poor handling and errors let the side down.

The Knights opened the scoring from a scrum win through winger Travhon Lemalama. Five-eighth Krystian Mapapalangi, a former Sea Eagles player, failed to convert the try for a 4-0 lead after 17 minutes.

Mapapalangi then converted a penalty goal for a 6-0 lead which they took into half-time.

Newcastle went to a 10-0 lead after Mapapalangi scored in the corner before some good defence saw Manly take Lemalama into touch with 18 minutes to go.

A charging run by Knights prop Cooper Jenkins saw him crash through two defenders to score near the posts. Mapapalangi converted for a 16-0 lead after 72 minutes.

Two minutes from full-time, Lemalama grabbed his second try when he finished off a nice play to score near the posts. Mapapalangi’s conversion attempt hit the posts for the 20-0 scoreline.
