Sea Eagles beat Thunderbolts in season opener

Manly Warringah Sea Eagles recorded an 18-10 win over the Victoria Thunderbolts at Lottoland today in the opening round of the NSWRL Jersey Flegg competition.

In a hard fought match, the Thunderbolts opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a try to winger Saimone Ahomana following a drop ball by Manly. Five-eighth Daniel Atkinson converted the try from the sideline for a 6-0 lead.

Manly hit back when five-eighth Josh Schuster floated a long cut out pass to send winger Roly Pdesta over in the corner. He failed to convert his own try for a 6-4 scoreline.

The Sea Eagles took a 10-6 lead into half-time after forward Neihama Oldman crashed over next to the posts in the 31st minute. Podesta converted the try.

The Thunderbolts hit back when hooker Haele Finua crashed over out wide for a 10-all scoreline after 52 minutes.

Manly then took a 12-10 lead through a penalty goal to Podesta in the 69th minute.

Schuster then used his strength to crash over next to the posts with four minutes remaining for a 16-10 lead. Podesta converted for an 18-10 lead.
