Pioneer..Merv Gilmer (back row, second left) pictured here in Manly's inaugural 1947 first grade team.

Manly Warringah Sea Eagles pass on their condolences to the family of the late Merv Gilmer, who passed away on Sunday, aged 93.

Gilmer played in Manly’s inaugural first grade team in 1947 – the year the Sea Eagles entered the then NSWRL competition.

He wore the number six jersey in Manly’s first ever match against Western Suburbs at Brookvale Oval on April 12.

Gilmer played 21 games for Manly from 1947-49, scoring two tries, and kicking 38 goals for 82 points.

Our thoughts are with his wife, Joyce, and family. Rest in peace, Merv.
