Despite battling some niggling injuries which disrupted the start of the season for Lyon, the inspirational captain led by example when the Sea Eagles needed him most.

Lyon played a crucial role in Manly’s first win of the season when the Sea Eagles triumphed over bitter rivals the Melbourne Storm 24-22 at Brookvale Oval but a niggling groin injury kept the skipper out for a couple of weeks and the side struggled in his absence.

The two time Manly Premiership winner was starting to build up some solid game time but unfortunately succumbed to a hamstring strain during the 44-10 loss to the Broncos in Brisbane. However he made a winning return from injury as Manly cruised to a much needed win against the Cronulla Sharks at Brookvale Oval.

During the reverse fixture against the Queensland side in Gosford, Lyon was virtually unstoppable as he scored one try and set up another two as the Sea Eagles romped home to a 44-14 win.

Lyon’s tremendous late season form carried on into Manly’s crucial clash against the Raiders in Canberra where he scored a brace of tries whilst keeping his cool in front of goal to put the Sea Eagles ahead with a conversion to win the game.

Lyon's experience and leadership will be crucial for the Sea Eagles next season as a new era begins under incoming head coach Trent Barrett.
