Brenton Lawrence has secured the first steps to playing State of Origin after he was selected in the 2014 Queensland Academy of Sport Emerging Origin squad.

Despite some confusion last season around Lawrence’s origin eligibility and allegiance, his selection in the 2014 QAS Emerging Origin side will come as little shock to all Sea Eagles members and supporters.

The front-rower was a clear standout in his debut season and says he has every intention of repeating his efforts again in 2014.

"Obviously i'm honoured to have been thought of for this weekend's camp," Lawrence said.

"I'm always going to play hard for the Sea Eagles every week and if the potential to earn a Queensland Origin jumper is there, then it is a great motivator for me to step it up a notch."

Lawrence will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of teammate Daly Cherry-Evan who made the successful step up in to the Origin arena last year, helping Queensland to an eighth consecutive series victory.

The 14-man squad gathers in Brisbane tomorrow evening, before spending the weekend taking part in a series of team building exercises, field sessions and lectures.

The team will be astutely guided by QAS Rugby League Head Coach Wayne Bennett.
