The Junior Sea Eagles Academy develops and supports our next generation of rugby league players.
Our three-phase pathway program provides talented young juniors with a structured and developmentally focused pathway that can ultimately lead them into the Manly Sea Eagles NRL team.
The Academy encompasses structured training and development activities conducted by experienced coaching staff. As players progress along the pathway additional programs are implemented including welfare and education support.
The Junior Sea Eagles Panel is active in player recruitment and works in conjunction with trusted local and regional junior rugby league scouts to identify promising young talent to join our pathway programs.
Our annual six-week Summer Academy is the entry point into our pathway program for players in the Under 13 to Under 15 age groups.
Junior Representative Teams
Each year our most promising Under 16 and Under 18 junior rugby league players are selected to represent the Sea Eagles in the Harold Matthews and SG Ball competitions.
NRL Player Support
The Junior Sea Eagles Academy is supported by some of our current NRL players.
Jamie Lyon and Darcy Lussick welcomed our Elite Development Squad players to this year’s Winter Academy. Jamie took our Under 13 and Under 14 players on a tour of the Sea Eagles gymnasium, offering training and game day advice to the keen youngsters. To top it off, our Under 12’s were fortunate to have the guidance of Jake Trbojevic as their Elite Development Squad Coach, with Nicho Hynes, NYC player as Assistant Coach. We are grateful for the time and commitment put in by our senior club players.
Later in the year, Darcy Lussick will come on board as Assistant Coach helping our U16’s as they compete in the 2017 Harold Matthews Cup.
Winter Academy – Elite Development Squads
The Elite Development Squads are held annually in June and July. This phase of our program allows our coaching staff to further develop and nurture promising young juniors in the Under 12 through to Under 17 age groups. During this stage, our squads compete against other NRL Club junior development squads.
2016 – Our Largest Contingent of Players
This year, 180 players across all age groups from Under 12 through to the Under 17’s were invited to participate in the Junior Sea Eagles Elite Squad program.
This is the largest group of players ever to be selected by the Sea Eagles, giving more of our talented local juniors the opportunity to pursue their dream of wearing a Manly NRL jersey in years to come.
Inaugural Trbojevic Cup – Under 14
We are delighted to partner with the Canberra Raiders to support the development of rugby league in our regions. The inaugural Under 13 Jarrod Croker Cup and the Under 14 Trbojevic Cup were played between the Sea Eagles and Raiders development squads in Goulburn on 13 July.
Congratulations to the U14 Elite Development Squad for winning the 2016 Trbojevic Cup.
2016 Junior Sea Eagles Sponsors
The Sea Eagles would like to thank our sponsors for their support and commitment to developing our stars of the future.
