It has been a big few weeks for Manly’s Fijian Test hooker Api Koroisau.
Manly Media Manager Wayne Cousins caught up with the popular number nine about his wedding to playing against the USA in the opening round of the Rugby League World Cup.
Wayne: Api, the most important news first. Congratulations on your wedding in Fiji. How was the special day?
Api: The wedding day was amazing. Amy and I were so happy with how things ran and everything went to plan. The bride looked absolutely stunning. I had full control of my nerves up until I saw Amy walking down the beach. That’s when I lost all control (laughing). I had a few tears running down my face and struggled to get my vows out.
Wayne: A short break and you were up against the USA in Townsville. A game you were always going to win, but they never stopped trying the rugby league minnows?
Api: Going into the game on Saturday night, we were never going to underestimate the USA lads. We knew we had to start fast and take it from there. They never stopped trying. Townsville really put on a good show for us as well. The crowd was amazing. It’s always a great place to play.
Wayne: How did you rate Akuila Uate’s performances in the centres for Fiji after his stunning first year on the wing for the Sea Eagles. With Dylan Walker in doubt for the beginning of the season, can Akuila make it as a centre at Manly?
Api: He was one of our best on the weekend. He's also a great leader around camp! I have absolutely no doubt that if Aku was asked to play in the centres to fill in for Dylan that he would do the job. He’s just a freak of a player and continues to show everyone time and time again.
Wayne: How is life under Fijian Coach Mick Potter?
Api: ‘Pottsy’ is great mate. He is really incorporating the Fijian culture and traditions into camp. And on the footy side, Mick is a great coach. He works really hard with individual players to make them better.
Wayne: How unfortunate it was for your Manly team-mate Jake Trbojevic to suffer injury whilst playing for Australia on Friday night?
Api: I heard about what happened to Jake and was devastated. He has worked so hard to earn that Kangaroos spot and it has all been cut short. Jake is one of the most professional players I've met and know he will be very diligent with his rehab and do everything he can to be right for round one next season.
