Manly Warringah Sea Eagles suffered a 22-10 loss to Penrith Panthers tonight in the elimination final at Allianz Stadium in the Telstra Premiership finals.

The Panthers opened the scoring in the second minute with a penalty goal to half-back Nathan Cleary for a 2-0 lead after Manly prop Martin Taupau was penalised for accidental offside.

Manly then had to soak up 13 minutes of relentless goal line pressure as Penrith dominated possession.

The Sea Eagles took a 4-2 lead in the 26th minute when centre Dylan Walker caught a kick crossfield from full-back Tom Trbojevic to score out wide. Wright failed to convert the try.

A grubber kick from Penrith half-back Nathan Cleary saw the ball hit the posts for forward Bryce Cartwright to score. Cleary converted for an 8-4 lead after 35 minutes.

Cleary kicked a penalty goal in the 38th minute for Penrith to take a 10-4 lead into half-time.

The Sea Eagles trailed 10-8 when utility Lewis Brown, on for an injured Curtis Sironen, scored off a short pass from Blake Green. Wright converted for a 10-all scoreline with 16 minutes remaining.

Manly received a tough call in the 74th minute when the NRL bunker ruled a dummy half kick from Cartwright bounced off Cherry-Evans’ foot and into arms of centre Tyrone Peachey. The bunker ruled that the ball bounced of Peachey’s chest with the ball hitting the ground for Peachey to score. Cleary converted the try for a 16-10 lead.

Cartwright then scored in the final minute for a 20-10 lead. Cleary converted for a 22-10 scoreline.
