Manly Warringah Sea Eagles suffered a 46-22 loss to St George-Illawarra at WIN Stadium today in round 20 of the Holden Cup competition.
The Dragons went into the match in third place with the Sea Eagles in fourth position on the ladder.
The Sea Eagles got off to a good start when winger Jade Anderson dived over in the right corner after ball was shifted across backline. Anderson could not convert his own try for a 4-0 lead after four minutes.
The Dragons took the lead five minutes later when winger Jason Gillard scored off a kick. Half-back Jackson Willis converted from the sideline for a 6-4 lead.
A break down the right flank saw centre Rueben Garrick score behind the posts in the 13th minute. Willis converted for a 12-4 lead.
St George-Illawarra full-back Jai Field then laid on his team’s next two tries in quick succession for a 24-4 lead. Field broke the line to send Willis on a 50 metre run to score before Field delivered a nice cut out pass for Gillard to get his second try. Willis converted both tries.
Second Half
Gillard grabbed his third try in the 43rd minute for a 28-4 lead before five-eighth Tristan Sailor scored behind the posts for a 34-4 lead.
Anderson then took his opportunity through a gap to score his second try in the 57th minute for a 34-8 scoreline.
Two quick tries to second-rower Haumole Olakau'atu and Cade Cust left Manly traiking 34-18 before the Dragons laid on further tries to second-rower Jackson Ford and winger Steven Marsters for a 46-18 lead.
Olakau'atu scored his second try in the final minute for the 46-22 scoreline.
