Manly full-back Tom Trbojevic is looking to take the experience of being involved in the NSW Origin camp to further benefit his game.
Named as a reserve for the second Origin game in Sydney, won by Queensland last night, Tom says the lessons he learnt will prove invaluable going forward as was the case last year when selected as an Emerging Blues player.
“Just hanging around the high calibre of players that do play Origin, you do take a lot out of it,’’ Tom said today.
“During the camp, I took out as much as I could out, and hopefully I can transform that into my game and improve.”
Like his team-mates who are fresh from Manly’s second bye last weekend, Tom is eagerly awaiting the challenge of tackling Cronulla Sharks at Southern Cross Group Stadium this Sunday.
“I feel really refreshed. It is a big game against the premiers so we are all ready to get back out on the footy field. I can’t wait,’’ Tom said.
“When you play big teams, you need to play well, lift, and rise to the occasion. We will be looking to do that.
“We want to play finals footy and at the start of the year, we all had high expectations. We knew we were a good footy side. Over the last six or seven weeks, we have been showing that and putting a few wins together.
“It another test for us this Sunday...one of the biggest of the year.
“I will be looking to just do my job for the team and put my best foot forward and come away with the win.”
Tom also dismissed talk he could be a chance of being called into the NSW side for the deciding Origin series game. He also praised his older brother, Jake for another strong performance in just s second match for the Blues.
“I don’t really think so. I think ‘Loz’ (coach Laurie Daley) will stick with the same 17 that won well in Queensland three weeks ago, and played really good last night in patches,’’ Tom added.
“Jake played really well. He came on after about 25 minutes and put ‘Teddy’ (James Tedesco) through and ran the ball really well. We were very happy with his performance.
“He is all fine for this weekend. He is ready to go.”
