Lock Brendan Attwood scored a double for the Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles in the loss to the Wests Tigers.

Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles suffered a 28-20 loss to Wests Tigers at Leichhardt Oval today in round eight of the Intrust Super Premiership.

The Tigers put the Sea Eagles under plenty of pressure in the opening 10 minutes but it was the visitors who opened the scoring when Blacktown Workers five-eighth Cameron Cullen sliced through the defence to

send prop Tom Amone over. Full-back Matthew Wright converted for a 6-0 lead after 13 minutes.

The home side responded three minutes later when Jordan Rankin and Watson Heleta combined to send Ryland Jacobs over. Rankin converted for a 6-all scoreline after 17 minutes.

Wests Tigers were denied a try minutes later when forward Kyle Lovett was penalised for a double movement.

The Sea Eagles capitalised on their luck when co-captain Brendan Attwood swooped on a mistake by Heleta from a Pita Godinet grubber kick to score for a 10-6 lead. Wright failed to convert from out wide.

Lady luck was then on the Wests Tigers side when winger Jayden Wheelhouse took an intercept pass to race away for a try in the 27th minute. Rankin failed to convert for a 10-all scoreline.

Five minutes later, the Sea Eagles regained the lead when winger Kelepi Manu scores from a scrum win play for a 14-10 lead. Wright failed to convert the try.

The lead was short lived when the Wests Tigers drew level six minutes later after Lovett was not to be denied a try a second time.  Rankin converted to give the home side a 16-14 lead at half-time.

Second Half

Wests Tigers stretched the lead to 20-14 when Wesley Lolo crashed over on the last tackle. Rankin converted for a 22-14 scoreline.

Unfortunately for the Sea Eagles, the home side went further ahead three minutes later when centre and captain Nathan Milone scored. Rankin converted for a 28-14 lead.

The Sea Eagles hit back in the 60th minute when Attwood scored his second try after a freakish pass from winger Viliami Kaveinga. Wright converted the try for a 28-20 scoreline.

Wests Tigers then pulled off a try saving tackle through Jacobs when he prevented an overlap to deny the Sea Eagles in the 70th minute.

The home side held on to record victory with some desperate defence inside the final 10 minutes.

Round 9
