His team may be winless after five rounds but Coach Pat Weisner remains as positive as ever that the first victory for Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles is very close.
The Sea Eagles pushed undefeated leaders New Zealand Warriors for 60 minutes in Auckland last Sunday in the Intrust Super Premiership before letting the game slip away.
“There were patches where we were the better side. It was just our tryline defence was a little bit soft,’’ Weisner said.
“I was really pleased with the impact our bench players gave us when they came on. We ran really hard and were really determined. We made a lot more metres than what we have had previously and that gave us a bit of a platform to actually play off where we haven’t had those quick play the balls and haven’t given our halves much of a chance in the first few weeks.
“We need to start winning and it has to be sooner rather than later. If we play how we have over the last couple of weeks, I know the win is getting close.
“We have done enough to win but just our errors are really costing us points. If we cut those down a little bit and be a bit more patient, we will get that win. Once you get one win, it can quickly turn into a couple and you get on a roll. We just have to get that first win.”
Weisner added he has resisted the temptation to move captain Brendan Attwood back into the starting side for the clash with premiers Illawarra at Lottoland on Saturday at 12.40pm.
The Dragons have won two matches to sit in eighth place.
“Brendan got our man-of-the-match after coming off the bench. He just made such a good impact as did Tom Amone and Dean Parata,’’ he added.
“Tyler Cassel has been asking to play in the second-row again, and it is best position, so he will probably come in there.”
