Manly Warringah Sea Eagles recorded a 20-12 victory over South Sydney Rabbitohs at Allianz Stadium tonight in Round 20 of the Telstra Premiership.

It was the Sea Eagles’ third straight win and moves them to 18 competition points, four points behind the eighth-placed Penrith. The Warriors, Wests Tigers, and St George-Illawarra are on 20 points.

The match marked the 100th NRL game for Manly prop Darcy Lussick n front of a crowd of 8273.

The Sea Eagles went to a 4-0 lead after four minutes when hooker Apisai Koroisau combined with half-back Daly Cherry-Evans to send five-eighth Jamie Lyon over under the posts. Lyon converted his own try for a 6-0 lead.

A penalty goal in front of the posts by Lyon stretched Manly’s lead to 8-0 after 21 minutes.

A spilt bomb Souths winger Joe Burgess gave Manly six more tackles and the visitors made the most of it, scoring through winger Jorge Taufua for a 12-0 lead three minutes later.

Cherry-Evans then put Jamie Buhrer through a gap with the lock sending full-back Tom Trbojevic over untouched next to the posts. Lyon converted for an 18-0 lead after 36 minutes.

Second Half

South Sydney half-back Adam Reynolds sliced through a poor attempt of a tackle by prop Josh Starling in the 45th minute for an 18-6 scoreline.

Reynolds then put in a grubber kick behind the defensive live for full-back Cody Walker to score next to the posts. Reynolds converted to leave Manly with an 18-12 lead after 51 minutes.

South Sydney were denied a try to Joe Burgess after the NRL Bunker ruled he lost control of the ball with his right hand in trying to slam it down in the 58th minute.

Lyon extended Manly’s lead to 20-12 in the 62nd minute with a penalty goal after Buhrer was taken out in chasing through a grubber kick on the last tackle by Cherry-Evans.

The Sea Eagles withstood some pressure from the Rabbitohs late in the game to secure the two competition points.
