The streets surrounding Brookvale Oval will be beating to the sounds of drums when the second annual Golden Eagles Day takes place on Sunday, July 31.

The Golden Eagles (Sea Eagles Old Boys) recognises former Manly players and officials across all grades. Last year’s inaugural Golden Eagles Day was a huge success and was well received by the Brookvale Oval crowd who enjoyed having the chance to meet some of their favourite former players.

Steve Menzies, Cliff Lyons, Mark Carroll, Daniel Gartner, Alan Thompson, Fred Jones, Dave Hosking, John Bucknall, Ronny Gibbs, Joe Galuvao, Craig Hancock, Michael Robertson and Josh Perry, are just some of the names who have committed to be at Brookvale Oval for Sunday afternoon football against the Newcastle Knights.

Prior to the match, the Golden Eagles will again be marching from Manly Leagues Club to Brookvale Oval from 2.30pm and will be escorted by drummers and the Manly Seabirds cheerleaders.

They will then take part in a lap of honour pre-match before forming a guard of honour for the NRL team entry. URM are the proud Match Day Partner and have enjoyed a 20 year relationship with the Sea Eagles.

The Sea Eagles NRL team will wear a URM Community jersey for the game based on the 1997 jersey to signify the 20th Anniversary of URM’s sponsorship of Manly.

As part of the day’s great activities, the Sea Eagles will be celebrating 20 years since Manly’s 1996 Grand Final win (20-8 over St George), and 40 years since the 1976 Grand Final win (13-10 over Parramatta).

To help celebrate, the first 2000 supporters through the gates will receive a free Sea Eagles Clap Banner. You can even grab some Manly posters from the Seabirds.

There is also a special One Game Try Out Membership available for Manly supporters for the day.

Golden Eagles Chairman Mark Bryant is encouraging all Sea Eagles Members and fans to join the March ahead of an epic Sunday afternoon clash.

“We are again expecting upwards of 150 former players and we’d love as many of our maroon and white supporters to join us for the walk to Brookie,” Bryant said.

“This is a march that recognises our history, from our social home of the Manly Leagues Club to our spiritual home of Brookvale Oval, with players of all eras that have represented the Sea Eagles.

“Everyone had a great day last year. I’m sure that this year’s event will be even bigger and better as we cheer on the Manly team to victory.”
