Facing two of the NRL’s most in-form props is a challenge Manly forward Siosaia Vave is looking forward to in Townsville on Monday night.

Vave has been a tower of strength for the Sea Eagles with his barnstorming runs. He has played in every Manly game.

He will need to be at his best again when the Manly forward pack collides with the likes of Nth Qld Cowboys’ big men headed by Matt Scott, James Tamou, and Jason Taumalolo.

The reigning premiers have not lost a home game this season and sit in third place with nine wins from 14 matches. The Sea Eagles are back in 14th place and are trying to end a six game losing streak.

“You like to measure yourself against the best. Scott and Tamou are currently the best props in the game. I’m ready for the big collisions,’’ Vave said.

“As a forward pack, we take pride every week in trying to stay defensively sound in the middle and get the boys on a roll on and use the opportunities we create for them.

“’It is going to be a big task against the inform Kangaroos props on their home ground where they have been pretty strong.

“We have been in positions to win games and that has been disappointing.”

Vave said the players were enjoying the chance to spend more time together in Townsville after arriving in Cowboys territory on Wednesday following their loss to the Titans on the Gold Coast last Monday night.

“We are here in Townville a couple of days early to get things organised and hopefully knock the Cowboys off,’’ he said.

“It is good to get away from Sydney and the spotlight it brings. Despite our recent form, we are a very happy group. Everyone enjoys each other’s company. Morale is still up.”
