If hunger and a desire to learn is any indication, Nathan Green will go a long way to locking down a permanent spot in the Manly back-row.

Green returns to the Manly pack for this Monday’s round 16 clash against premiers Nth Qld Cowboys in Townsville after being dropped from the team following the first two rounds of the season.

The former St George-Illawarra Dragons back took the decision on the chin, knowing Coach Trent Barrett wanted him to learn more about the back-row by playing in Manly’s Intrust Super Premiership team.

“Trent wanted me to just get my confidence back. I am still learning how I can be the best back-rower I can be,’’ Green said.

“It is a position I enjoy and one that Trent sees me in. I’m finding things that work for me and things that I can do that will make me a better player.

“I spoke a lot to a lot of half-backs as they are the ones that have to tackle second-rowers. I remember talking to Daly Cherry-Evans about what he finds is the hardest thing when he is being targeted by a back-rower.

“I really want to get the ball in my hands as much as I can. I’ve been getting some good ball from Dylan Kelly, Feleti Mateo, and Pita Godinet in the Intrust competition, so I will be looking for the same now with Daly.

“I’m excited to be back and I can’t wait for the challenge against the Cowboys. We just have to bring our A game.

“Hopefully we can give a good performance and walk off the field proud. And if I can play some good footy, hopefully I can keep my spot.”
