Manly international forward Martin Taupau is urging supporters to ‘keep the faith’ as the team continues to work hard towards returning to the winners circle.
The Sea Eagles recorded their sixth straight loss in going down to the Gold Coast Titans last night in a match that marked the return of Taupau from a four week suspension.
Injuries last night to Matt Parcell (hamstring) and debutant forward Liam Knight (ankle) have added to the growing casualty ward at Manly, who sit in 14th place on the ladder. The club is awaiting on results of scans to determine how long they will be out for.
“There are plenty of factors that come into play, with injuries and changes to the team,’’ Taupau said.
“It has been hard for everyone involved from the coaching staff, the players, and for our fans.
“We do everything in our power at training hoping it translates onto the field. We are working our backsides off.
“I have told plenty of supporters before that Rome wasn’t built in a day. It is all about building relationships and forming something really special. Give it some time and we will come good.
“You just have to keep the faith.”
Fellow Kiwi international Lewis Brown said morale within the playing group was still very positive.
“In team sports, you go through some highs and lows, and at the moment, results wise we are on a bit of a low,’’ Brown said.
“Spirit wise, there is a lot of spirit in this team. Our backs are against the wall at the moment through adversity and losing games, but we are all sticking together.
“Losing so many games in a row is not pleasing, or what we planned to do. Sometimes you are given these things in life and it is a real test of character for us.
“We are not cracking. We are sticking together as a group. We are not giving up and the only way we can get out of it is to keep working hard.”
