Sea Eagles centre Steve Matai remains hopeful of taking on the South Sydney Rabbitohs at Brookvale Oval this Thursday night.

Matai revealed today he will have scans on Tuesday as he looks to overcome a neck injury that ruled him out of Saturday night’s gutsy win over the Sydney Roosters at Allianz Stadium.

“It (the neck) is not too bad today. I did a bit of contact work on Friday and it sort of went backwards. I just didn’t get enough time for it to settle,’’ Matai said.

“I will have a scan tomorrow and we will just have to take it from there.

“There are a couple of discs there that are jammed and we are trying to figure out where the spot is where it is quite sore. Hopefully I get a cortisone (injection) and it will settle down.

“We have managed it well over the pre-season and I’m sure that the medical staff here are doing the right thing.”
